ERTL AIRPLANES SUITABLE FOR PULP GAMING
One problem that pulp gamers have, is finding planes that fit with 25 to 28 mm miniatures. You can use 1/48 Airplane Model Kits but the plastic kits tend to be a little flimsy (especially the biplanes) and don't hold up well to the rough handling gamers sometimes give them (we have all knocked miniatures on the floor). One solution I have come up with is Ertl Airplane Banks. These banks are issued by a number of different companies with their logos and advertising on them. With a good paint job, they make good stand-ins for planes of the pulp era. While usually pretty expensive ($50 plus for particular planes issued by specific companies), it is possible to pick them up at a reasonable price on E-bay. You just have to be patient and only bid on those who have reasonable prices. I picked up a Keystone Loening Amphibian for $11 plus another $15 shipping. I think $26 for a sturdy assembled 1/48 airplane is a reasonable price. The planes on E-bay rarely list the scale so this page is to help you find the planes in a useful scale (1/43 or 1/48). Click on Ertl Airplanes for a list I have researched so far.
