The Seaplane Battle
Aerial photographs of the compound, kindly provided by Dr. Smith, showed lots of dense woods, a small cabin with some kind of stone structure nearby, and a seaplane tied up at a dock along the lake. Professor identified the stone structure as Toressen's Folly, an obviously fake structure modeled after a European henge (after all everyone knows that Europeans didn't reach the New World until Columbus). A truck delivered them to a point near the compound. After passing on swimming into the compound (it was Lake Superior in September) they instead followed the fence around the compound and waded through the edge of the lake. Once inside the fence they went several feet into the woods and headed towards the flying boat along the shore. This, of course, was not my plan. The flying boat was suppose to be the last part of the adventure when they chased the fleeing Cult leader as he tried to escape. But because it was a little nearer than the henge they went their first (Not doing what the gamemaster expects is traditional in RPGs).
Entering in the woods, well away from the shore, the players deployed. Miss O'Toole and Short Round in the front, followed by Long Round Muffin, and Doobie. Then came Thomas and his two un-named supporters. In a double column behind him were Don Diablo and Zephyr nearest the table edge, with the Mystery man and assistant further on the table. Behind them was Colonel Infernal (in civies- his figure hadn't come in the mail yet) with his faithful batman Peabody. Professor McTavish and Johnson were next to them (in the pith helmets).
Two Cultist armed with shotgun stood guard by the dock, while a larger group on the dock moved cargo and serviced the seaplane.
Carefully keeping out of sight of the shore (I ruled you could only see 6 inches in the woods) the players spread out to catch the Cultists in a crossfire. After successfully avoiding several pit traps and bear traps they reach their positions.
While trying to move close enough to fire McTavish and Johnson are spotted by the Cultists with shotguns (easy Dare test) who open fire.Fortunately McTavish's Mystic Charm prevents a wound. Their return fire only drops one of the Cultists.
The rest move forward. McTavish and Johnson gun down the last shotgun armed cultist while the Mystery Man, Colonel Infernal and associates blaze away at the other Cultists who return fire with pistols. Two of the Cultists with pistols are felled dropping into the lake. Thomas, despite having a scoped sniper rifle, misses.
All Cultist go down in a final volley of fire, all except for the midget Cultist who had been leading them. He mysteriously vanishes (You Won This Round-yes I know companions don't get that skill but I went on the premise that the Cult had been around a while and could have more skills) . Zephyr fired one last shot at the fuel drums by the seaplane. They go up like a bad Hollywood explosion setting the seaplane on fire. A quick search of the part of the dock not on fire gives the players a couple shotguns and several pistols (yes I let the players loot the dead of common equipment). The only injury to the party is a wound to Johnson.
